你怎么样
nǐ zěn me yàng
How you doing · trad. 你怎麼樣
你怎么样 (nǐ zěnmeyàng) is a common and natural way to ask 'how are you doing?' or 'how's it going?' in Mandarin Chinese. It's used to inquire about someone's general well-being or current situation.
When to use it
Neutral to casual. For a more polite or formal context, you can use 您怎么样 (nín zěnmeyàng). To ask specifically about recent times, 最近怎么样 (zuìjìn zěnmeyàng) is very common. Common replies include 我很好 (wǒ hěn hǎo, 'I'm good'), 还不错 (hái bùcuò, 'not bad'), or 马马虎虎 (mǎmǎhūhū, 'so-so').
How to pronounce it
Sounds roughly like “nee ZEN-meh-YANG.” The 你 is a third tone, 怎 is a second tone, 么 is a neutral tone, and 样 is a fourth tone.
