How a Chinese New Year message is built
- The name or title, then a comma: 爸爸妈妈，… or 王老师，…
- The greeting: 新年快乐！
- A thank-you line for work contacts and teachers.
- 祝 (zhù, “wish”) + 你 or 您 + two or three four-character wishes, one after another.
Stacking wishes is normal. Three in a row sounds warm and generous, not excessive.
你 or 您?
Use 您 (nín) for your manager, clients, teachers and older people you are not close to. Use 你 (nǐ) for friends, colleagues of your level and children. Within the family most people say 你 or 你们 even to parents and grandparents.
For two or more people say 你们 (nǐmen), which is natural even to older people. There is no plural of 您 in standard written Chinese.
When to send it
Most messages are sent on New Year's Eve or on the morning of New Year's Day, and they are welcome until the Lantern Festival fifteen days later. See the Chinese New Year dates for this year's days.

What is a good Chinese New Year wish?
新年快乐，万事如意！ (xīnnián kuàilè, wànshì rúyì!) means “Happy New Year, may everything go your way.” It suits almost anyone.
What do you write to your boss for Chinese New Year?
Use 您 and start with thanks: 感谢您一年来的指导，祝您身体健康，步步高升！ “Thank you for your guidance this year. Wishing you good health and success in your career.”
What do you say to elders at Chinese New Year?
Wish them health first: 祝您身体健康，万事如意！ For grandparents you can add 健康长寿 (jiànkāng chángshòu), “a long and healthy life.”
Is 恭喜发财 a good message for everyone?
恭喜发财 (gōngxǐ fācái) wishes wealth. It is friendly with friends, family and business contacts, but choose a wish for health or work when you write to a teacher or a manager.
Can I write 过年好 in a message?
过年好 (guònián hǎo) is spoken and friendly, so keep it for people you know well. For a manager, a client or a teacher, write 新年快乐 or 新春快乐.
Can I send the same message to everyone?
Yes. For a group chat use 祝大家 (zhù dàjiā), “wishing everyone”: 祝大家新年快乐，万事如意！
