我爱我自己
wǒ ài wǒ zì jǐ
I love my self · trad. 我愛我自己

我爱我自己 (wǒ ài wǒ zìjǐ) is a direct and common way to say “I love myself” in Mandarin Chinese. It emphasizes the subject's love for their own person and is often used in contexts of self-affirmation, personal growth, or expressing self-worth.

When to use it

Neutral. While direct, it's suitable for personal reflection or sharing with close friends. For a slightly more concise version, you can say 我爱自己 (wǒ ài zìjǐ), which omits the second “我” but still clearly means “I love myself.” To express strong self-love, you can add adverbs like 非常 (fēicháng, “very much”).

How to pronounce it

Sounds like “wuh-EYE wuh TZEE-jee.” The first 我 is a dipping third tone, 爱 is a falling fourth tone, the second 我 is a dipping third tone, and 自己 is two third tones, so the first syllable of 自己 shifts to a rising tone.

Other ways to say it

  • 我爱自己wǒ ài zì jǐI love myself (more concise)
  • 我非常爱我自己wǒ fēi cháng ài wǒ zì jǐI love myself very much
  • 爱自己ài zì jǐlove oneself (general concept)

Pro tip: The phrase 我爱我自己 uses two instances of 我 (wǒ, “I/me”) before 自己 (zìjǐ, “self”). While grammatically “我爱自己” (I love self) is also correct and common, “我爱我自己” adds a subtle emphasis, making it feel more complete and affirming, like “I love my own self.”
