你好,很高兴认识你
nǐ hǎo , hěn gāo xìng rèn shi nǐ
Hello nice to meet you · trad. 你好,很高興認識你

This is the standard and most common way to greet someone new in Mandarin Chinese, combining a polite "hello" with "nice to meet you." It's suitable for almost any first introduction.

When to use it

Neutral and polite. For a more formal or respectful greeting (e.g., to an elder or a superior), you can use 您好 (nín hǎo) instead of 你好, and 您 (nín) instead of 你 (nǐ) in the "nice to meet you" part: 您好,很高兴认识您. In very casual settings, just 很高兴认识你 might suffice after a simple "hi."

How to pronounce it

Sounds like "nee-HOW, hun gao-SHING run-shrr nee." Remember the tone change for 你好 (ní hǎo). The "认识" (rènshi) part has a neutral tone on the second character.

Other ways to say it

  • 很高兴认识你hěn gāo xìng rèn shi nǐnice to meet you (without 'hello')
  • 认识你很高兴rèn shi nǐ hěn gāo xìngnice to meet you (alternative word order)
  • 您好,很高兴认识您nín hǎo , hěn gāo xìng rèn shi nínhello, nice to meet you (polite)
