我会想你的
wǒ huì xiǎng nǐ de
I will miss you · trad. 我會想你的

我会想你的 (wǒ huì xiǎng nǐ de) is the most common and natural way to say 'I will miss you' in Mandarin Chinese. It expresses a heartfelt sentiment when someone is leaving or absent.

When to use it

Neutral and sincere. For a more direct 'miss you,' you can say 想你 (xiǎng nǐ). To emphasize a strong current feeling of missing someone, use 我很想你 (wǒ hěn xiǎng nǐ), 'I miss you very much.' If you're sad to part, 舍不得你 (shěbùdé nǐ) means 'I can't bear to part with you.'

How to pronounce it

Sounds roughly like 'WOH hway SHYANG nee duh.' The 'WOH' is a dipping tone, 'hway' is a falling tone, 'SHYANG' starts dipping and then rises, and 'nee' is a dipping tone.

Other ways to say it

  • 想你xiǎng nǐmiss you (casual, direct)
  • 我很想你wǒ hěn xiǎng nǐI miss you very much (emphasizes current feeling)
  • 舍不得你shè bù dé nǐI'll hate to part with you / I can't bear to leave you

Examples

我会想你的,一路顺风!
wǒ huì xiǎng nǐ de , yí lù shùn fēng !
I will miss you, have a safe trip!

虽然你走了,但我会想你的。
suī rán nǐ zǒu le , dàn wǒ huì xiǎng nǐ de 。
Even though you're gone, I will miss you.
Pro tip: Tone change: when two third-tones like 想 (xiǎng) and 你 (nǐ) are together, the first one (想) changes to a rising tone. So, it's pronounced 'xiáng nǐ,' not 'xiǎng nǐ.'
