我恨你
wǒ hèn nǐ
I hate you

我恨你 (wǒ hèn nǐ) is a very strong and serious expression in Mandarin Chinese meaning "I hate you." It conveys deep anger, resentment, or animosity and is not used lightly.

When to use it

Very strong and often used in moments of intense emotion or conflict. It's much stronger than "I dislike you." For milder expressions of dislike, use 我讨厌你 (wǒ tǎoyàn nǐ, "I detest/dislike you") or 我不喜欢你 (wǒ bù xǐhuān nǐ, "I don't like you"). In dramatic contexts, it can be used for emphasis.

How to pronounce it

Sounds roughly like "wuh HUN nee." 我 (wǒ) is a third tone, 恨 (hèn) is a falling (fourth) tone, and 你 (nǐ) is a third tone. Note the tone sandhi for 我你, where 我 becomes a rising tone.

Other ways to say it

  • 我讨厌你wǒ tǎo yàn nǐI dislike/detest you (less strong)
  • 我不喜欢你wǒ bù xǐ huan nǐI don't like you (mildest)
  • 恨死你了hèn sǐ nǐ leI hate you to death (emphatic/dramatic)

Pro tip: "恨" is a very powerful word in Chinese, indicating deep-seated hatred. For everyday expressions of strong dislike or annoyance, "讨厌" is much more common and less severe. Using "我恨你" casually would sound overly dramatic or insincere.
