我想你
wǒ xiǎng nǐ
I miss you
我想你 (wǒ xiǎng nǐ) is the standard and most common way to say “I miss you” in Mandarin Chinese. It conveys a feeling of missing someone or thinking about them. The word 想 (xiǎng) can also mean “to think” or “to want,” but in this context, it clearly means “miss.”
When to use it
Neutral and appropriate for close relationships like family, friends, or romantic partners. For a stronger feeling, you can add 很 (hěn, “very”) to say 我很想你. If you want to convey a new realization or change of state, you can add the particle 了 (le) at the end: 我想你了.
How to pronounce it
Sounds roughly like “wuh SHYANG nee.” Because three third tones appear consecutively, the first two often change to rising tones. So, 我想你 is typically said as “wó xiáng nǐ.”
Other ways to say it
- 我很想你wǒ hěn xiǎng nǐI miss you very much (stronger)
- 我想你了wǒ xiǎng nǐ leI miss you (with a particle indicating a new state)
- 好想你hǎo xiǎng nǐReally miss you (casual, often used in songs)
Examples
我想你,什么时候能再见面?

你走了以后,我每天都很想你。
nǐ zǒu le yǐ hòu , wǒ měi tiān dōu hěn xiǎng nǐ 。

Pro tip: Tone change: When three third tones (like in 我想你) appear consecutively, the first two usually change to rising tones (second tone). So, it's pronounced “wó xiáng nǐ,” not three flat third tones.
