In this lesson you take a guest's order: "Are you ready to order?" and "What would you like to drink?" Orders are made with 要, and dishes are counted with the measure words 份 and 道.

Ordering with 要 / the measure words 份 and 道
To order or ask for something, use the verb 要 (to want / I'll have...).
① 我要 + number + dish
"我要一份套餐" (one set meal). Dishes are counted with 份 (a serving) or 道 (a dish/course). Drinks take 杯 (see Lesson 32).
- 我要两份套餐Two set meals, please. (Use 两 before a measure word.)
- 这道菜this dish (道 is the measure word for dishes).
Service tip: 您要点菜吗？ (Would you like to order?) and 为您确认一下点菜内容 (Let me confirm your order). Guests will call you over with 服务员！.
