Grammar Point

suì? = How old?

To ask someone's age, say suì. To answer, say suì. is used to ask about numbers smaller than 10. Do not try to guess pronunciation from English spelling — always use pinyin!

  • suì?(How old are you?)
  • shísuì。(I am 10 years old)

liǎng vs èr

When counting things or ages, "2" is liǎng (not èr). The digit "2" on its own is èr.

  • liǎngsuì(2 years old)
  • shíèr(12 uses èr
